About Mustaque Rahman

Independent Police & Crime Commissioner candidate

Mustaque was born and raised in North Tyneside, attending schools in Whitley Bay and Tynemouth, then graduated in practicing Law from Northumbria University.

Former Crown Prosecutor, he spent 10 years in the Crown Prosecution Service in Northumbria and 3 years legal adviser to Magistrates in the north east.

Mustaque Rahman has prosecuted cases such as complex frauds, extradition, violent assaults including murder, thefts, burglaries etc.

Mustaque is a Northerner through and through who has first-hand lived experience of the challenges the Northumbria Police Force face and that of the challenges the North East has faced, namely during the almost two decades of Tory austerity measures, the decline
and demise of the Police Force due to the unfair and cruel funding cuts for the force to deal with every day policing matters!

Mustaque understands the importance of policing, has lived experience of suffering hate crime, has witnessed the increase of crimes, including knife crime, violence against women and girls and anti-social behaviours and unlike other candidates has lived experience and understands the root causes of crime, therefore, is best placed to implement and action changes to better manage ‘every day policing’.

Mustaque says

  • Shoplifting gangs know that if they steal less than £200 in a shop, the police won’t attend. It’s destroying our independent businesses and strangling our high streets.

  • If you’ve been burgled in Monkseaton, Stocksfield or Boldon, there is a 0% chance that the police have caught anyone. Anti-social behaviour is rife, and people have stopped reporting it because nothing is done.

  • After five years in charge, the current Labour Party Police and Crime Commissioner admits it is not good enough, but where is the political leadership to x it? Out of 43 police forces in England and Wales, Northumbria police came 40th on catching shoplifters. You can’t pin that on Government cuts.

  • We see no action from the Conservative Government either, just culture wars about Rwanda instead of fixing problems in the North East. Two of the last three Prime Ministers have been convicted of breaking their own Covid rules. They haven’t even dealt with £billions in fraud that could be used to fund our police and courts."
