Habib Rahman, Independent Cllr

Newcastle’s first and former Muslim Lord Mayor, Independent Cllr Habib Rahman is supporting Mustaque Rahman for PCC.

"Mustaque Rahman is the ideal candidate for the role of Police & Crime Commissioner. His extensive experience, garnered as a Crown Prosecution Lawyer handling a wide range of cases—from complex fraud and extradition to violent assaults, including murder, as well as thefts and burglaries—demonstrates his profound understanding of the criminal justice system. Furthermore, his advisory role to magistrates in the northeast has honed his expertise in legal processes.

Mustaque's deep comprehension of crime dynamics, coupled with his proven ability to identify early detection strategies, positions him as a dedicated advocate for prosecuting crime effectively, particularly hate crimes and knife violence. On a personal note, the issue of knife crime resonates deeply with me, having lost my father to a hate-induced knife attack. The alarming frequency of young and innocent lives being cut short by such violence underscores the urgency of this matter. Mustaque prioritizes the protection of victims, early detection of potential threats, and the education and prevention of crime from its inception.

I am casting my vote for Mustaque Rahman and strongly encourage others to place their faith and trust in him for the role of Police and Crime Commissioner. His independent candidacy stands in stark contrast to career party politicians, who often prioritise the interests of their party over those of the community.

Vote for Mustaque Rahman—a candidate committed to serving the best interest of the public."

Anne-Marie, Retired Police Officer

Standing as an Independent to be Councillor in Whitley Bay.

"It will make a refreshing change to have someone not tied to a political party as PCC. Also, to have someone with knowledge of how the criminal justice systems cogs grind.

Mustaque is pledging to speed up the rate of criminal cases going through the courts. This will be a huge support for victims and reduce attrition rates. We currently have a situation where rape and sexual offences cases take years to bring to justice. Unacceptable. Mustaque will champion victim care.

His focus on prevention is reassuring. Challenging the causes of crime and disorder is far healthier than mopping up the pieces.

I support Mustaque Rahman to be our next PCC."
